Time Flies

We are over a month into the school year and the old adage is true...time flies when you're having fun! Already so much has taken place in our year so far. Our enrollment is up nearly 30 students over last year, the most kids North Fairview has ever seen.

The library has experienced many changes this year that have kept me quite busy. In the past, I have only been half time. This year I have increased to 80%, putting me there three full days and two half days every week. This has allowed for library time to increase to 50 minutes per class instead of 30 as it used to be. I've also been busy helping with MTSS (OSCAR) groups and last week, I administered the MAP tests for about a third of the school.

This week I'm so very excited to brig author and illustrator Lisa Campbell Ernst to our school to talk to all of the kids. We have an excellent day!

Some Assembly Required

Yesterday my family and I spent some time moving the library furniture and shelves back into place. It's exciting to see it take shape again! I also started cleaning out my storage closet and put new shelving in to make better use of the space. With our class sizes this year, I think I'll be able to have six tables for the classroom area and use our seventh table for our new library centers. It will also be nice for small groups using the library. I'm making some new signage and found posters if forgotten I had so we can have a fresh look for the walls as well. I can't wait to go back and get more done!

Enrollment

Yesterday was enrollment at school. I worked for a couple of hours with Mrs. Leis and Mrs. Cloud at the food service table It was fun to see so many kids and their families come though the line. It was exciting to see how the building looks with fresh paint! Only two more weeks until our first day of school!

A New School Year

As the end of summer approaches, it is exciting to think about a new school year.  After a fun and relaxing time off, many new ideas and plans are racing through my mind for the readers at North Fairview.  Thanks to Pinterest and lots of online blogs, I have found many ideas to try.  Some will take place from the beginning of the year and some will be throughout the year.  Some may not even happen this year, but it is always fun to try new things in the library!
